The goal of this project was to use concepts of play to create an immersive and exciting area for all to enjoy.
I began my ideation process by heading to the library to draw inspiration from other spaces in the world.
Focusing on a target audience was very important when it came to figuring out the best ways to create wonder in a large space. I focused on a parent and child duo that would be looking for a fun afternoon while maintaining basic safety needs.
I finished off my ideation by creating concept sketches.
I then moved to illustrator to create and refine the floor plan.
I moved to the bandsaw and sanders to create the buildings. I also painted the base with a bright green to draw the eye in.
The final piece is a small scale of City Wonders. The area includes seating for parents and workers looking to relax on a lunch break. It features many building forms that engage kids to play in the "real world" by climbing on, ducking under, or hiding behind.
